English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Funding is available to provide support for refugee and migrant background students with high English learning needs. The programmes are called English for Speakers of Other Languages – ESOL.

From now on ENROL will help schools keep track of their English Language Learners (ELL), with:

The report English Language Learners at my School that will display all the current English Language Learners at the school, including:

  • student’s NSN
  • names (known as and legal names)
  • date of birth and gender
  • first day of attendance
  • first ethnicity and citizenship
  • student’s status (refugee, migrant or NZ born)
  • number of ESOL  terms left (terms to pay)
  • number of ESOL  terms already paid
  • current status (active or ceased)
  • date ceased
  • current year level
  • previous school

Displaying the text ‘English Language Learner’ in the Schools Attended box, just above the enrolment history, for eligible students:

New Reports

  • English Language Learners at my School: as above
  • Student Address List: This report will display the addresses for the school’s currently enrolled students. It will include students’ NSN, name (known as and legal names), date of birth, Gender, Current Year Level, Address
  • Students receiving selected types of Special Education Services:  this report will list all students with any special education flag. This report will display the students’ NSN, names (known as and legal names), date of birth, ethnicities, last school, current year level, all special education flag and date the flag was set. Note that the flags will be removed from the report “Detailed Information of Students Currently Enrolled at my School”.

All reports will include the “Known as” name

All reports that display students’ names (schools and DHB reports) will include the “Known As” name. If the “Known As” name is not the same as the legal name, then both names will be displayed in the report.

The reports will be sorted in Last Name (known as) alphabetical order.

So there will be four columns with students names: Last Name, First Name, Legal Last Name, Legal First Name

Principals and RTLB teachers will be able to request read only access to ENROL

Principals and RTLB teachers will be able to ask their school’s EPA authoriser to give them read only access to ENROL. This does not require training.
