Who is eligible for this study award

To be eligible for this award, you must:

  1. Be employed as an early intervention teacher (EIT) or early childhood teacher by either:
    • us
    • an accredited early intervention service provider
    • a registered early childhood service
  2. Hold a Bachelor in Teaching (Early Childhood Education) or equivalent*
  3. Be a fully registered teacher
  4. Have the approval of and support from your employer to take up the study
  5. Have worked for at least 3 years as a qualified early childhood teacher
  6. Be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residency.

You are not entitled to this award if you are:

  • not accepted into the Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention
  • repeating a failed course.

If you're employed part time:

  • you will still be eligible for this study award, but the number of study leave days allocated to you will be less - this is based on your full-time equivalent status.

*An equivalent qualification is either: 

  • a New Zealand early childhood teaching qualification that has been accepted by the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand for teacher registration; or
  • an overseas qualification assessed by NZQA as equivalent to a Diploma in Teaching (ECE) and accepted by the NZ Teacher’s Council for teacher registration.
