South Australia and New Zealand Principal Exchange

About the Principal Exchange

The Ministry of Education and the South Australia Department for Education and Child Development (DECD) has developed a Principal Exchange for Term Three of the 2016 school year.

The South Australia and New Zealand Principal Exchange supports the leadership capability of principals in South Australia and New Zealand. The Exchange aims to:

  • support the Ministry’s joint programme with the Education Council to strengthen 21st Century practice in teaching and learning through leadership development
  • enable principals to experience the challenges and learn something new from leading in a different jurisdiction
  • foster professional development through sharing ideas for innovation and excellence in leadership, teaching, curriculum and school activity
  • enhance learning opportunities for all involved including the principal, teachers, other school staff, Board of Trustees and the wider school communities
  • create an environment for school communities to develop relationships and learning opportunities with overseas schools, foster goodwill, augment skills and knowledge of leaders and students and promote networking across jurisdictions
  • provide an opportunity to build leadership capability
  • provide an opportunity to use the reports / feedback from the exchanges to build new case studies for school leadership Best Evidence Synthesis focused on the experiences and new knowledge gained around how to apply the leadership dimensions in new contexts, and
  • raise international awareness of the New Zealand Education system.

For the 2016 school year, two placements are available for New Zealand principals to participate in an exchange with a similar school in South Australia.

To be eligible applicants must have been:

  • a primary school principal with a student roll of 400 or more

or

  • a secondary or area school principal with a student roll of 1000 or more

and

  • be available for term three of the 2016 South Australian school year (25 July-30 September 2016) one week before and after the term
  • be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • be employed as a full-time permanent position in a primary, secondary or area principal in a New Zealand state or state-integrated school
  • be a fully registered and certificated teacher
  • meet the health and character requirements for an Australian visa:  www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa/Heal
  • not currently under review or investigation for competence and/or conduct and discipline
  • have the support of their school’s Board of Trustees.

Note: Private and Partnership school principals were not eligible to apply. Assistant principals and deputy principals were not eligible.

Applications closeclosed on Friday 13 MayMonday 18 April 2016 at 5.00pm. 5.00pm. Successful applicants will be notified in May.
