The West Rolleston Primary School site was surrounded by farmland on all sides when it was selected for the new school at the beginning of 2014.
Two years later, the fast-growing town of Rolleston has already reached its gates.
The $16.8m school has been welcomed as a much-needed addition for the Canterbury town, as the local population has grown rapidly following the earthquakes.
Construction began in January 2015 and was finished by the end of the year. The school was built to accommodate population growth and a future roll of 750, and a special education satellite. The learning spaces are flexible, to cater for a range of teaching practices and learning styles.
At West Rolleston Primary School, the vision was to have flexible learning spaces to enable a greater scope for learning activities. Its innovative learning environment is learner-centric and encourages collaboration and inquiry.
