The Wakatipu Area Strategy Plan (2009), outlined planned changed to the Wakatipu schooling network to accommodate population growth.  The relocation of Wakatipu High School to its new site at Remarkables Park in 2018, completes these planned changes.

With the continued growth of the Wakatipu Basin population we need to develop a further plan to look at this area’s future education needs. Before we develop this, we want to hear what you have to say about education needs in this area.

Engagement process

We have contracted an external facilitator to carry out a community engagement process in Term 2. Dr Gabrielle Wall has a background in education research and community engagement projects. She has extensive knowledge of the education sector and of future focused school design. She will be supported by a reference group comprised of education sector representatives from the Wakatipu area.

This engagement process will enable the community to explore desirable possibilities for future education provision. It will initially involve face to face public workshops (held 7-9 June). The ideas generated from these workshops will be used to form an online survey. The survey will be open from 27 June -June to 15 July.

Face to face workshops 7-9 June

These workshops will be an opportunity to ask questions, contribute and discuss ideas about possible features and options for future education provision.

The workshops are scheduled at each of the 6 primary schools. You are welcome to attend a session at whichever venue best suits your schedule. Please note that while similar content will be covered in each of the 6 workshops, the workshop held at St Joseph’s School will include additional discussion on Catholic schooling in the Wakatipu Basin area.
