We will give priority to applicants who:
are currently employed as Resource Teachers: Deafhave not received a study award or fellowship for which leave with pay was granted within the last 2 years.
We will use 11 factors to assess your application and you will be scored on how well your application meets each of these. So make sure your cover letter includes information about each of the following factors:
- Your level of involvement with students with special education needs and the extent this qualification is a requirement of your current position.
- Your future commitment to working with students with special education needs.
- Your experience with and knowledge of The New Zealand CurriculumandTe Marautanga o Aotearoa.
- Your proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL).
- Your involvement in the Deaf community.
- Your knowledge of and background in diverse cultures.
- Your ability to speak a language in addition to English that is commonly used by children who attend early childhood centres and schools in New Zealand.
- Other relevant experience.
- Your ability to manage work and study demands, including the practicum course in your second year of study.
- Your academic ability.
- Support from your employer to undertake the study.
We will also consider:
your geographical location and how this fits with current needs (We are aiming for an equitable distribution of DHH awards across the country, preferably two per Ministry region.)additional support from the community and/or colleagues outlining strengths and areas for developmentany special circumstances you feel are important for us to consider.
Our decision to grant or not grant an award is final, and we will not enter into any discussion about it.
