Who is eligible for this study award

To be eligible for this award, you must :

  1. Be employed in one of the following roles:

  • by our Special Education unit as, for example, a Speech Language Therapist, Educational Psychologist, Special Education Advisor, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Early Intervention Teacher
  • as a Resource Teacher: Learning and Behaviour (RTLB)
  • as a registered teacher with experience with children with ASD (eg classroom teacher, SENCO, outreach service teacher, or special school or mainstream classroom teacher).
  1. Hold a relevant professional qualification such as a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Speech Language Therapy or an equivalent qualification. This means an overseas qualification assessed as being equivalent to a relevant New Zealand qualification by the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association, the New Zealand Psychologists Board or the Education Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.Zealand Teachers’ Council.   2. Show that your employer supports your application

  3. Have worked for at least 3 years in a specialist role working with children and young people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

  4. Be a New Zealand citizen or have New Zealand permanent residency.

You are not entitled to this award if you are :

  • not accepted into the Postgraduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • repeating a failed course.

If you're employed part time :

  • you are still eligible for a study award. However, the number of study leave days you receive will be less - this is based on your full-time equivalent status (FTE).
